Rain, from below. Nearly all of the year's rain falls between October and May, and water sits at the threshold, so jamb feet, sills and brickmold rot from the bottom up while the door above looks fine. Wood doors swell and stick through the wet months and shrink in the summer, which loosens hinges and throws the latch off the strike. The fix is a rebuilt frame, a sealed sill and a rehang.
In Hillsboro the frame rots before the door: the jamb feet and the sill take the rain. A rebuilt frame and a sealed, rehung door save most of them. When the slab itself is rotted or split, the new door you buy is the better choice, and we tell you on the call.
Usually not. Oregon's residential code exempts a door replacement in Hillsboro when no structural member is changed, and rehanging a door, rebuilding a frame or new hardware are repairs. A wider opening, a new header or a new doorway needs a permit, and we tell you on the call.
Water that sits at the threshold all winter rots the bottom of the jamb and the brickmold first. We cut out the soft wood, splice in new, prime every cut and seal the sill, so the next wet season does not undo it.
Planned streets with association standards and builder doors. Doors swell and stick, sliders drag and sills leak. We rehang, reseal and install new doors the association approves.
Older homes with original wood doors and frames rotted at the sill. We rebuild the frame, rehang the original and seal it against the rain.
The newest homes, where doors settle with the house in the first years. We adjust, rehang and swap hardware, and fix garage-to-house doors so they close on their own.
We price the repair or the install on the call, in writing, before anything is scheduled.
Shims, hinges, strikes, weatherstrip, jamb stock and the common locksets come along, so most repairs finish the day we arrive.
We measure first so you buy the right size and swing, then hang the door you bought, frame fixed first so it stays true.
The work area is cleaned before we leave, and every repair and install carries our one-year workmanship warranty.
Oregon's residential code exempts door and window replacements where no structural member is changed, so a same-size door in the existing opening needs no building permit; a repair needs none either. Enlarging an opening or adding a doorway changes the header and takes a permit. We check before you buy a door that does not fit the opening.
The residential code wants the door between the garage and the house to be solid wood or steel at least 1-3/8 inches thick, or rated for 20 minutes, and to close on its own, as the code requires. Many older homes have a hollow-core door there; we install the right door, and the closer where one is needed.
Orenco Station, Tanasbourne, AmberGlen and South Hillsboro have associations with approved door styles. A repair that matches needs nothing; a new front door usually needs the association's form first, and we put the size, style and finish in writing for it.

Call 971-571-5787We answer in under three rings, price most door repairs on the call, and usually schedule within days. The technician brings shims, hinges, strikes, weatherstrip and jamb stock, so a rehang, a frame repair or a lock replacement is finished in one visit.
Yes. A door that sticks in the wet months and is loose in the summer needs its hinges tightened, its edges planed and sealed and its frame trued, so it closes in both seasons. Sealing the edges after planing is what keeps it from swelling again.
A rehang or a new strike plate is a small job; a rebuilt frame or a new door installed is a bigger one. Describe the door or text a photo and you get the price on the call, in writing, before we schedule anything, and that is the price at the house.
Dark, soft wood at the bottom of the jamb and the brickmold, paint that bubbles at the sill and a door that no longer seals. We cut out the rot, splice in new wood and seal it, and replace the sill if the rot goes under it.
We install them. You pick and buy the door, from a home center or a door shop, and we install it: we measure first so you buy the right size and swing, fix the frame, then hang, seal, trim and fit the hardware. Prehung or slab, interior or exterior, French or patio.
Yes, that is most of our installs. Tell us the size and whether it is prehung or a slab, or text a photo of the label, and we price the install on the call. If the opening needs work first, we tell you before the door arrives.
Usually not. Oregon exempts a door replacement where no structural member is changed, so a same-size door in the old opening needs no permit, and repairs need none. A wider opening or a new doorway does, and we tell you on the call.
