Rusted coastal hardware replaced, posts reset, sagging gates rehung square. Priced on the call, usually finished in one visit.

Kaminskiy Care and Repair repairs wood fences and gates across Newport Beach, from the Balboa Peninsula and Balboa Island to Corona del Mar, Eastbluff, Newport Heights and Newport Coast. Hinges and latches the salt air has eaten are replaced with coated hardware, posts the harbor damp keeps wet are reset in fresh concrete, and gates that drag are rehung square, usually in one visit. You get the price on the call, in writing, before anything is scheduled, and we keep every board that is still sound. Since 2005, from our Orange County office on Michelson Drive, ten minutes up Jamboree.
Eight repairs, one crew, priced before we come out.
Salt air on three sides, harbor damp on the islands and the peninsula, and sun on the bluffs wear a Newport Beach fence down from the hardware in. We replace what has rusted, reset the posts, match the wood, and rehang the gate so it latches with one hand. Same fence, standing straight.

From the hardware in. On the peninsula, the islands and in Corona del Mar the salt air finds plain steel hinges, latches and screws within a few seasons, and once the rail screws let go the section racks. The harbor damp keeps the base of every post wet, so the rot starts at the ground line where nobody looks. Up on the bluffs and in Newport Coast it is the sun and the irrigation instead. The pickets usually look fine. The fence leans because the posts and the hardware are gone.
A like-for-like repair needs nothing. California exempts fences up to seven feet from a building permit, and Newport Beach's zoning keeps a fence in the front setback to 42 inches and a side or rear fence to six feet; on the Peninsula, Balboa Island, Corona del Mar and West Newport a front fence may reach five feet if the part above two feet is mostly open. Much of the city is in the coastal zone, where a new fence can need a coastal permit, and we check before building anything new.
Reset posts, coated hardware and matching pickets fix most fences for a fraction of the cost of a new one, and that is the work we do. Whole-fence replacement, vinyl and iron are not our lane. If that is what the fence needs, we say so on the call, and we still fix the gate and the sections that can be saved.
A pool gate should close and latch on its own, with the latch release at least 60 inches up. That is the standard in California's Swimming Pool Safety Act, and it is the first thing we check on a pool fence. The gap the dog found at the bottom is a rail and a picket, fixed in the same visit.
Salt air gets the hardware before it gets the wood. Hinges seize, latches stop catching, and the screws holding the rails let go within a few seasons of plain steel. The harbor damp keeps the base of each post wet, so the rot starts at grade. The fix is a new post where one has gone, new rails and coated or stainless hardware, with the sound pickets kept.
1950s to 1970s fences on posts that have spent decades in irrigated soil. The pickets often look fine; the fence leans because the posts are gone at the ground line. Resetting the failed posts brings the whole line back straight without replacing the fence.
Slope lots, association standards and newer builder fences set shallow. One rotted post lets a section rack, and the ocean wind finishes it. We reset it deeper in concrete, re-plumb the run and match the profile the HOA expects.
We price the repair on the call, in writing, before anything is scheduled.
Posts, rails, pickets, hardware and concrete come along, so a post reset, a picket swap or a gate rehang is finished the same day we arrive.
A gate that is done gets a new single wood gate built on site, up to four feet wide. A fallen section is rebuilt on the existing posts.
The work area is cleaned before we leave, and every repair carries our one-year workmanship warranty.
California exempts fences up to seven feet from a building permit. Newport Beach's zoning (20.30.040) keeps a fence in the front setback to 42 inches, a side or rear fence to six feet, and a fence, wall or hedge inside a traffic sight area to 30 inches; on the Peninsula, Balboa Island, Corona del Mar and West Newport a front fence may reach five feet with an open top. A like-for-like repair changes nothing, and we check before building anything new, including whether a coastal permit applies.
California's Swimming Pool Safety Act expects a pool barrier gate to close and latch on its own, with the latch release at least 60 inches above the ground. If your pool gate drags open or the latch no longer catches, that is the first thing we fix.
Newport Coast, Crystal Cove, Harbor View Hills, Eastbluff and the island associations rarely need to approve a repair that matches the existing fence. A new gate, a new section or a different stain sometimes needs a form. We can give you the materials and finish in writing for it.

Yes. Most fence and gate repairs are exactly handyman work: posts, rails, pickets, hinges and latches. Kaminskiy is licensed, bonded and insured, so a rebuilt section or a new gate is not a problem either.
It depends on three things: how many posts have failed, how much wood and hardware needs replacing, and how easy the fence is to reach, which on the islands can mean a walk from the truck. Tell us what the fence is doing, or text a photo, and we give you the price on the call, in writing, before anything is scheduled. No surprises at the house.
Coated or stainless hinges and latches and exterior-rated screws. The old hardware rusted through because it was plain steel; the replacement is made for salt air, and we seal the new wood while we are there.
No. We repair wood fences and gates: posts, pickets, rails, sections, gates and staining. Whole-fence replacement, vinyl fencing, iron work and electric gate openers are not our lane. If your fence needs one of those, we tell you on the call and still fix what can be saved.
