A Portland door swells in November and shrinks in July, and on a 1920s bungalow it has been doing that for a century. Fir entry doors that need a shoulder, French doors that rub in the middle, sash windows painted shut, a jamb gone soft at the sill. We plane, rehang and seal, rebuild the frame, free the sash, and install the door you bought, matched to the house.

Kaminskiy-certified pros finish the job with a workmanship warranty.
Every job is backed in writing by our workmanship warranty and done by a Kaminskiy-certified, background checked technician.
Craftsman bungalows and foursquares from the 1900s to the 1940s with cedar siding, fir trim, sash windows and front porches. Doors bind in frames that settled a lifetime ago, sills and porch posts rot where the splash hits, plaster cracks reopen, and every repair has to match what is there. We keep the original where it can be saved and splice new wood into old.
Midcentury and 1970s to 1990s homes on slopes under firs, with cedar siding, decks facing the weather and long gutter runs full of needles. Nothing under the trees dries, so the shaded wall, the deck rails and the fascia go first. We rebuild boards, rails and siding where they stand and keep the moss from winning.
Younger buildings with less exposed wood and more drywall, sliders and builder hardware. The calls are doors that no longer latch, a stain below a window corner where water got behind the siding, a deck ledger, the drywall after a leak, and the condo turnover list, done to the association's form.
Water that never leaves. Nearly all of the year's rain falls between October and May, the north and east walls sit in shade, and moss holds the wet against wood, shingles and fence rails. Doors swell, sills drink at the end grain, gutters overflow onto the fascia, and a hundred-year-old house shows it first. Caught in year one it is a short visit; in year five it is a rebuild.
Doors, windows, drywall, plaster, trim, siding, fences, decks, gutters, rot and the list of small things are handyman work. Electrical and plumbing are licensed separately in Oregon, and the roof itself, gas and anything that holds the house up go to that licensed trade too; we tell you who to call and come back for the carpentry and paint around them.
Describe the list or text a photo of the worst item and most Portland repairs are priced on the call, in writing, before anything is scheduled. A rotted porch post, a deck or a bathroom refresh gets a look first and a written scope. The figure you approve is the figure at the house, and the painting waits for a dry stretch.
A 1920s fir door or a double-hung sash window is usually worth saving: planed, rehung, re-corded and sealed, it outlasts anything from a box store and keeps the street face the way the neighborhood expects. We free the painted-shut sash, replace the cords and the weatherstrip, splice the bottom rail where it went soft, and replace only what is past saving.
We answer in under three rings and most repairs are priced on the call, in writing, before anything is booked.
The technician arrives with the hardware, patching and fastening stock the usual list needs, so the first visit is the working visit.
Rot, a frame rebuild, a slider swap or a bathroom item gets a look and a written scope. You approve before work begins.
Every job is backed by our one-year workmanship warranty, and the area is clean when we leave.
Oregon is plain about it: anyone paid to repair, improve or build a home has to hold a Construction Contractors Board license, and a handyman is no exception. The law's only small-job carve-out is a one-off, casual job by someone who is not in the business and does not advertise, which describes nobody you would find by searching. Kaminskiy Care and Repair holds CCB #252813, is bonded and insured, and sends electrical and plumbing, which the state licenses separately, and anything structural to the right license.
Portland's own page says no building permit is needed to repair or replace siding that is not fire-rated, to replace a window or a door in the same-size opening, to paint the outside, to clear or replace gutters, or for a deck or stair at or below 30 inches, and the state code adds that an ordinary repair with like materials needs no application at all. A deck or stair over 30 inches, a new or resized opening or a porch enclosed is a permit, and we say so on the call.
In Irvington, Ladd's Addition, the Alphabet District and Portland's other historic and conservation districts, repair and maintenance are exempt from historic review: repainting, a rotted board replaced in kind, a door rehung, a sash repaired. Replacing a whole window or a run of siding with a different material, or changing the design of the front door, is an alteration that may need review first, and we tell you when a job is close to that line.

Call 971-571-5787We answer in under three rings, price most repairs on the call and usually schedule within days. The crew leaves our Hillsboro office on Tanasbourne Drive, twenty minutes west on Highway 26, and works the east side and the West Hills all week.
It depends on the list. Tell us what needs fixing, or text a photo, and the number comes on the call, in writing, before anything goes on the calendar. A porch post, a deck or a bathroom item gets a look first and a written scope, and if a board hides more rot than the photo showed, you hear it before we go further.
That is the whole idea. The swollen door, the painted-shut sash, the drywall crack and the gate go on one list, and a Kaminskiy-certified technician with a stocked truck works through it. Anything that needs a milled profile or a special-order part is scheduled before we leave.
In Oregon they are the same question: anyone paid to repair a home needs a Construction Contractors Board license, handymen included. Kaminskiy Care and Repair holds CCB #252813, is bonded and insured, and every technician is Kaminskiy-certified and background checked. Electrical and plumbing are licensed separately, and we hand those off instead of guessing.
Usually not. The city's own page leaves siding repair, a same-size window or door, exterior paint, gutters and a low deck outside the permit, and the state code adds ordinary repairs with like materials. A deck or stair over 30 inches, a new or wider opening or a porch enclosed is where a permit starts, and we tell you on the call.
Because the wood takes on water from October to June and swells, usually at the bottom rail where the finish let go. We plane the door to fit the wet season, seal the end grain and the edges, adjust the strike and the hinges, and replace flat weatherstrip, so it closes with one hand in January and does not rattle in July.
Yes. Repair and maintenance are exempt from historic review in Irvington, Ladd's Addition and the other districts: a rotted board replaced in kind, a sash repaired, a door rehung, a repaint. A new window design, a different siding material or a changed front door may need review first, and we say so before anything is ordered.
The whole metro from our Hillsboro office: Portland's east side including Sellwood, Woodstock, Hawthorne, Montavilla, Alberta, Irvington and St. Johns, the Southwest hills including Hillsdale and Multnomah Village, plus Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie and Clackamas. Tell us what needs fixing. We'll call you back with a price and a time. Calling is still the fastest way: 971-571-5787.
