Wind and water. Orchards sits on the east side of the county, in the path of the cold east wind that comes down the Gorge, and its fences spend October to May in wet ground. The posts rot at the ground line, the long back runs lean, and one windstorm lays the weak sections down. The fix is new posts set deeper in fresh concrete and matched cedar, not a new fence.
Not for a repair. Orchards is unincorporated Clark County, where a fence up to seven feet needs no permit and may stand in a setback, built up to your side of the line with the footing facing in. A like-for-like repair changes nothing, and we check before building anything new.
