Rotted lap on a Midtown Victorian, sun-split board-and-batten in East Sacramento, swollen composite on the 1990s suburbs, cracked Hardie shingle on the new west side of Roseville: replaced in the same profile, permitted where the city asks, and painted to the house.

Kaminskiy Care and Repair repairs and replaces siding across Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom and El Dorado Hills: the redwood lap and drop siding of the Midtown, Boulevard Park and Alkali Flat Victorians, the board-and-batten and lap of the 1940s to 1960s ranch houses in East Sacramento and Land Park, the composite and hardboard lap that swells on the 1980s and 1990s suburbs, and the fiber cement (Hardie) on the newer villages. Failed boards come out, the building paper and flashing are lapped back in so water drains, and the new siding is cut to the original profile, primed on all sides and painted to the house. Where Sacramento and Roseville put siding on the permit list, we pull the permit. Licensed siding contractor (CSLB #1106209), EPA Lead-Safe Certified, priced in writing on the call: 916-507-2190.
From the central city to Roseville, Folsom and the hills.
The valley is hard on siding from both sides of the year. Summers past a hundred bake the west walls until the paint lets go and the boards split; then the tule fog and the winter rain soak whatever is open, and under the big street trees the north walls never dry. Composite lap from the eighties and nineties swells at every edge that water reaches. We replace what has failed, lap the paper and flashing so the wall drains, prime every face and cut edge, and finish with paint chosen for the sun.

Walk-Through & WarrantyThese calls come in every week from Midtown to Folsom, more of them when the rain starts. A photo is usually enough to price the repair in writing on the call; if the wood may be soft into the sheathing or the sill, we come look first and put the scope and the permit question on paper.

We name the siding, tell you whether your city, a historic district or an association has a say, and price the repair in writing.

Where the city lists siding as permit work we pull it first, then the failed boards come off and the sheathing and paper are read with a meter.

New siding to the original profile, primed on all sides, flashed so it drains, painted to the house, and the permit inspected and closed.
Every job is backed in writing by our workmanship warranty and done by a Kaminskiy-certified, background checked technician.
The central-city Victorians and Craftsman houses carry redwood lap and drop siding with a water table at the base. The 1940s to 1960s ranch houses of East Sacramento and Land Park carry board-and-batten and lap. Many homes built in the 1980s and 1990s carry composite (strand board) or hardboard lap, which swells when water reaches an edge. The newer villages in Roseville, Folsom and Natomas carry fiber cement. We name yours from a photo.
Redwood and fir on an older house is worth repairing in kind, and in a central-city district it is what the preservation rules ask for. Composite and hardboard are different: once the swelling runs along most of a wall, new boards beside it will not hide it for long, and re-siding that face in fiber cement or primed wood is the lasting answer. We price both in writing.
New wood primed on the face only cups in its first summer, a cut edge of composite left unsealed swells in its first winter, and paint applied at the end of a hot afternoon fails early on a west wall. We prime every face and every cut, seal the edges, and paint in the cool part of the day.
Clean the gutters after the leaves drop and before the rains, carry the downspouts away from the walls, keep the sprinklers and the soil off the siding, and trim the branches back so the north walls can dry. Repaint the west faces sooner than the others. A board this year is a wall in five.
Sacramento kept its old neighborhoods and built outward in waves: Victorians in the grid, ranch houses after the war, composite-sided suburbs in the eighties and nineties, and fiber cement villages since. The sun, the fog, the street trees and the decade decide what fails, and the city decides what needs a permit.
Victorians, Craftsman bungalows and cottages from the 1880s through the 1920s in redwood lap and drop siding, many inside the city's preservation districts. There, historic features are repaired before they are replaced and replaced in kind when they must be, and the usual permit exemptions do not apply. Every house here predates 1978, so the paint is tested and the work done lead-safe.
1920s to 1960s houses under the big street trees, board-and-batten and lap on the ranch houses, and the composite and hardboard lap of the 1980s and 1990s streets farther out. The shaded north walls stay wet through the fog season, the west walls bake in summer, and composite swells wherever the water gets an edge.
Stucco villages with fiber cement lap and shingle accents from the 1990s on, older railroad-era houses in downtown Roseville and on the Folsom hill, and association schemes nearly everywhere. Roseville lists siding and termite damage repair as permit work, Folsom's historic district reviews the outside of a house, and the El Dorado Hills fire zones change what a re-sided wall is built from.
On an older house, mostly yes: the old redwood fails at the base, by the steps and where the gutters overflow, and the rest is sound. On composite or hardboard it depends on how far the swelling runs. We open the worst spot, show you what the sheathing behind it looks like, and price a repair and a re-side side by side.
In the City of Sacramento siding is on the list of work that needs a building permit, and Roseville's handout lists siding and termite damage repair as permit work too; inside a central-city preservation district the usual exemptions do not apply at all. Rocklin says most repairs need a permit unless exempt. A painted trim board or a sill is ordinary repair; a run of siding is a permit, and we pull it.
We price it from a photo, in writing, before anything is scheduled. The number depends on how many boards have failed, whether the profile is stocked or has to be milled, whether the city wants a permit for it, and how much of the wall has to be painted to make the repair disappear. Materials are named on the quote, and nothing is marked up by a percentage.
California's minor-work exemption lets an unlicensed handyman take a job only under one thousand dollars, labor and materials together, and only when no permit is required (Business and Professions Code 7048, as amended by AB 2622). Since siding is permit work in Sacramento and Roseville, the exemption rarely applies. Kaminskiy Care and Repair holds a B general building license (CSLB #1106209), bonded and insured.
We name the siding and look up whether your address is in a district, a fire zone or an association, and what the city asks.
The failed boards come off, the sheathing and sill are read with a moisture meter, paint on a pre-1978 house is tested, and you get the photos.
Paper and flashing lapped in, new siding cut to the profile, every face and cut edge primed or sealed, fastened tight, set clear of the soil.
Painted to the house in the cool hours, the permit inspected and closed, the photos and the one-year workmanship warranty sent.
The City of Sacramento names siding, window replacement, decks, patio covers and re-roofing as work that needs a building permit, and exempts painting and finish work. Roseville's own handout puts siding, re-roofs and termite or fire damage repair on its permit list while exempting minor home repairs. Rocklin requires a permit for most repairs unless the work is specifically exempt, and El Dorado Hills is county permitting. We pull the permit and close it.
In Boulevard Park, Newton Booth, Alkali Flat and the other central-city districts, an alteration to a building fifty years old or older goes to the Preservation Director, historic features are repaired before they are replaced, and replacement is in kind. Folsom's historic district on the hill reviews changes to the outside of a house. A repair that keeps the redwood profile and the paint scheme is the easy case, and we document it for the file.
Pre-1978 homes may carry lead paint under the newer coats; Kaminskiy Care and Repair is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified firm, so the paint is tested before any board is cut and the work is contained and cleaned to that standard. Sun City Roseville, WestPark, Serrano and most of the newer villages have associations that approve a new material or color in writing. In El Dorado Hills' mapped fire zones, a re-sided wall goes on in an ignition-resistant material.

Call 916-507-2190Older redwood and fir siding can almost always be repaired: it fails at the base, beside the steps and under overflowing gutters, while the rest of the wall stays sound. Composite and hardboard lap are judged by how far the swelling runs; a few boards are replaced, a wall that has swollen end to end is re-sided. We open the worst spot, show you the sheathing, and price both options in writing.
Usually, yes. The City of Sacramento lists siding among the projects that need a building permit, and Roseville lists siding and termite damage repair on its permit list too. Painting and similar finish work are exempt, and inside a central-city preservation district the usual exemptions do not apply. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and close it, and the cost of the permit is on the written quote.
We price it in writing from a photo before anything is scheduled. How many boards have failed, whether the profile has to be milled, whether a permit is required, and how much painting it takes to blend the repair all move the number. A few boards beside a downspout is a small line; a wall of composite re-sided in fiber cement is a larger one. No percentage markups.
Composite (strand board) and hardboard lap swell when water gets into an edge or a nail hole and do not shrink back. A few boards can be replaced in the same reveal and the cut edges sealed; when the swelling runs along most of a wall, re-siding that face in fiber cement or primed wood lasts. We show you what is behind the boards before you decide. Call 916-507-2190 or send a photo.
Only a very small repair. California's minor-work exemption covers a job under one thousand dollars in labor and materials that needs no permit (Business and Professions Code 7048, as amended by AB 2622). Siding is permit work in Sacramento and Roseville, so the exemption seldom applies. Kaminskiy Care and Repair is a licensed B general building contractor (CSLB #1106209), bonded and insured.
Yes. In the central-city districts the preservation rules ask for historic features to be repaired before they are replaced and replaced in kind, which is how we work: we mill the lap or drop profile and the water table to match, prime every face, paint to the scheme, and photograph before and after for the Preservation Director's file.
Central-city Victorians carry redwood lap and drop siding that rots at the water table and beside the steps. Postwar ranch houses carry board-and-batten and lap that split on the west walls. Many 1980s and 1990s homes carry composite or hardboard that swells at the edges, and the newer villages carry fiber cement that cracks at nails and gables. We tell you which you have on the call.
