How handyman pricing actually works
There are two honest ways to price handyman work, and a good company uses both.
- Hourly for small jobs where the scope might grow once the wall is open. You pay for the time it truly takes.
- Fixed price for defined jobs. The number is agreed before work starts and it cannot move on you.
Beware the third way: the vague verbal estimate that grows at the end. If a company will not put the price in writing before starting, keep calling around.
Typical ranges, honestly
Across most US markets, professional handyman labor runs in these neighborhoods.
The suspiciously cheap guy from the neighborhood app is cheaper for a reason. No insurance, no warranty, and nobody to call when the repair fails in the rain. The expensive part of cheap work is doing it twice.
Skip the guesswork. Call 855-695-1195 and we will usually price your exact job over the phone in minutes. The quote is free and it is in writing.
What actually moves the price
- Scope clarity. A clear photo and description gets you a tighter, lower quote than a mystery.
- Materials. Typically you supply them, and we tell you exactly what to buy. We can pick them up for a fee.
- Access and height. Second-story work and tight crawl spaces take longer, honestly.
- Texture and finish matching. The invisible repair costs a little more than the visible one, and is worth it.
At Kaminskiy, deposits are simple. Nothing down on jobs under $1,000. Larger projects take a deposit of 10 percent, or up to $1,000 on jobs over $2,000, with progress payments as the work moves.
The one real way to pay less
Bundle the list. The trip is a fixed cost. One visit that knocks out the sticking door, the wobbly fan, the cracked caulk and the leaning shelf costs far less per job than four separate calls. Walk the house, write the list, and hand it over all at once. That is the whole trick, and any honest handyman will tell you the same.
Good questions, straight answers
Professionally run, insured companies typically run $60 to $130 per hour depending on market. We price most jobs as a fixed number over the phone instead, so the total is agreed before anyone arrives.
Not for jobs under $1,000 with us. Larger projects take 10 percent down, or up to $1,000 on jobs over $2,000, with progress payments.
Typically you do, and we tell you exactly what to get. We can also pick materials up for a fee, or install specialty items you already bought.
Insurance, background checks, warranties and real employees cost money and show up in the price. The cheapest quote is usually missing at least one of those, and you find out which one later.
Rather have it handled? Call 855-695-1195 and a real person will price the job over the phone. We answer in under three rings.
