AGING IN PLACE

Professional Aging in Place Services Nationwide

Professional Solutions

Most aging in place modifications are not large projects — they are a collection of targeted, specific changes that address the exact locations in the home where falls and mobility barriers are most likely to occur. The bathroom accounts for the majority of fall-related injuries in the home, followed by stairs. A grab bar at the tub transfer point, a hand-held showerhead at the correct height, a toilet safety frame or raised seat, and a non-slip floor surface address those risks directly. Kaminskiy Care and Repair’s handyman specialists install aging in place modifications with the structural backing and hardware standards that make each modification work as intended — not just look like it does. With crews across the United States, a safer home is a call away.

Why Choose Kaminskiy for Aging in Place Modifications

The most important thing about aging in place modifications is that they actually hold when they are needed. A grab bar that pulls out of a wall when a person reaches for it during a fall is worse than no grab bar, it creates false confidence and then fails in the exact moment it matters. Every modification we install is backed into framing or blocking, fastened to specification, and load-tested before we leave.

Structural Backing on Every Grab Bar:

Grab bars are fastened into wall studs, blocking, or a solid backer board rated for a 250-pound pull load, never into drywall alone.

ADA-Informed Placement:

We follow ADA guidelines for grab bar height, location, and diameter so every installation is in the position that provides the most support for the intended transfer or balance task.

Load-Tested Before Sign-Off:

Every grab bar and handrail installation is tested under 250 pounds of lateral and downward force before the job is complete.

Modifications That Fit the Home:

Aging in place work does not have to look clinical, lever handles, wider doorways, and flush thresholds are features that improve the home for every resident and guest, not just the person who needs them most today.

1-Year Warranty:

We stand behind our aging in place modification workmanship across every service.

Choose Kaminskiy for seamless patches, straight lines, and finishes that blend perfectly. We’re not just covering damage, we’re restoring the smooth, durable surfaces your rooms deserve.

Our Aging in Place Services

Grab Bar Installation

The bathroom is where most falls in the home happen, and a grab bar is the modification that does the most to prevent them. The failure point is almost always anchoring, a bar fastened into drywall alone pulls free at the exact moment it is needed.

  • Tub, shower, and shower entry bars set at the transfer point
  • Toilet side bars and vertical bars for sit-to-stand support
  • Blocking or backer board added when no stud is in the right position
  • ADA-informed height, diameter, and wall clearance
  • 250-pound pull test on every bar we install

Wheelchair Ramp Construction & Installation

A ramp built too steep, or built without landings and rails, is as much of a hazard as the steps it replaced. We measure the total rise at the entry and build to a 1:12 slope that actually works for a wheelchair, a walker, or an assisted transfer.

  • Entry rise measured and built to a 1:12 accessible slope
  • Wood, aluminum, and modular ramps sized to the entry
  • Level landings at the top, bottom, and every turn
  • Handrails on both sides plus raised edge curbs
  • Slip-resistant surfacing that holds up in wet weather

Handrail Installation for Seniors

Stairs are the second most common place for falls in the home, and the handrail is usually the weak point, missing on one side, ending before the last step, or fastened with hardware that will never catch a falling adult. We anchor every rail into studs or added blocking so it holds under full body weight.

  • Interior and exterior stair rails, including short entry steps
  • Second rail added to staircases that only have one
  • Graspable profiles that run the full flight with returns at each end
  • Hallway and bathroom assist rails along daily walking paths
  • Anchored into framing and load-tested, never drywall anchors alone

Lever Door Handle Replacement

A round knob has to be gripped and twisted, which arthritis and reduced hand strength make painful or impossible. A lever opens with a forearm, an elbow, or a closed fist, and most homes can be converted in a single visit.

  • Interior, exterior, and closet doors converted to levers
  • Keyed and locking levers for entry doors
  • Matching finishes so the hardware looks intentional, not clinical
  • Sticking doors, loose latches, and misaligned strike plates corrected
  • Cabinet knobs and faucet handles swapped for lever and D-pull styles

Doorway Widening for Accessibility

Many interior doorways are only 24 to 28 inches wide, tight for a walker and impassable for most wheelchairs, which puts a bathroom or bedroom out of reach. We widen the opening to a true clear passage, or use swing-clear hinges when a few extra inches will do.

  • Openings widened to 32 to 36 inches of clear passage
  • Swing-clear offset hinges when full widening is not needed
  • Load-bearing and header checks before any demolition
  • Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC rerouted inside the wall as required
  • Drywall, casing, and paint finished to match the existing room

Threshold Lowering & Trip Hazard Removal

Most trips happen at transitions, a raised threshold in a doorway, a lip where tile meets carpet, or a runner that slides underfoot. We walk the routes the resident uses every day and flatten, secure, or remove every change in level along them.

  • Raised door thresholds lowered or replaced with flush profiles
  • Flooring transitions leveled between rooms and surface types
  • Loose rugs, runners, and mats secured or removed
  • Exterior thresholds, patio door tracks, and garage steps addressed
  • Cords, floor vents, and other obstructions relocated off walking paths

Non-Slip & Solid Surface Flooring

Wet tile, polished stone, and worn vinyl are where bathroom falls actually happen, and thick carpet creates the opposite problem by catching walker wheels and cane tips. We install flooring that keeps its grip when wet and gives mobility devices a firm, even surface.

  • Slip-resistant tile, luxury vinyl plank, and sheet vinyl installation
  • Anti-slip treatments and coatings for existing tile, tubs, and showers
  • Thick carpet replaced with low-pile or hard surface flooring
  • Subfloor leveled first so there are no soft spots or humps
  • Color contrast at edges and steps so level changes are visible

Grab Bars & Bathroom Safety

A grab bar is only as good as what it is anchored to. We install bars, rails and seats into solid backing, positioned for how the person actually moves, and we leave the bathroom cleaner than we found it. It is an hour of work that prevents the fall everyone worries about.

THE FAMILY GUIDE

Know the options before
you call anyone

The falls math

Most serious falls at home happen in bathrooms and on stairs, and most are preventable with hardware: grab bars anchored into structure, solid railings on both sides, better lighting and thresholds eased flat. Small jobs, done in a visit, that change the odds.

Anchored means anchored

A grab bar that is screwed into drywall is a decoration that will fail on the worst possible day. Ours are anchored into framing or backed properly, rated for real weight, because the whole point is what happens when someone actually grabs it.

Booking from afar

Adult children book most of this work from another city. Call us, tell us about the home, and we handle it: a background checked, badge carrying technician, a written scope, and you kept in the loop from anywhere.

Aging in place, honestly

The goal is staying in the family home safely and on your own terms. Start with the high risk spots, bathroom, stairs, entries, then work down the list over time. We tell you honestly what matters most and what can wait.
